A mixed month with the horses, starting with Pony Club Eventing on Rosie at Offchurch Bury on July 6. We started with an incredible dressage and personal PB of 29.6 (70.4%) to put us into 8th individually.
Unfortunately some distractions around the showjumping ring led to some issues whilst we were jumping, so we came out with 12 jumping faults and heaps of time which ended up pushing us out of the top 10. However a super clear cross country put Rosie back into the good books! So unfortunately no placings but some amazing parts to take away from the day.
The day after, on July 7, we took Scoops to Solihull for some showjumping. We jumped two superb rounds in the 90cm and 100cm to win both!
Unfortunately after a week on holiday I hadn’t got my head in gear before the British Riding Clubs summer showjumping qualifiers with Scoops in the 90cm. I was unbelievably worried and hadn’t had nerves like that for a very very long time, which was clear by the way I was riding. However although our results were awful ‘on paper’, with two cricket scores in each round, I’m still very pleased with how it panned out.
Although it may seem like a nightmare outing for some, I was able to pick out so many positives from the day: how I composed myself when the disasters happened, how I treated Scoops like he’d won the class even though we were far from that, and most importantly how I find myself being constantly challenged in different ways - something I love most about riding. The day it gets easy is the day I stop learning, and even after 5 precious years with Scoops I can honestly say I learn more about him during every ride.
Onwards and upwards to Trailblazers National Champs with Rosie during the first week of August!
